French Model 1874 sword bayonet with scabbard manufactured in 1876 to fit French infantry model 1874 Gras rifles. This Gras bayonet has visible inspection marks from foundry and purchaser as well as the manufactures inscription on its blade. Top of the blade reads: "Mre d'Armes de St. Etienne Avril 1876” translated as "manufacturer of weapons Saint Etienne (a Paris armory location) on April 1876." A wood handle with brass pommel and 20.5 inch triangular steel blade. Cross bar and scabbard appear to be of blued steel as well. Cross piece marked M 16984 , with matching numbers on the metal Scabbard M 16984.
