European, probably German/Danish, early 20th century, oak and teak, roll-top opening to disclose asymmetrical arrangement of 6 drawers on left, including 5 with wood knobs, medial cupboard, 2 drawers on right beneath 8 slots, writing counter over medial drawer flanked on each side by 3 drawers simulating 4 drawers, all with trapezoidal wood handgrips and horizontal reeding over bracket feet, 47" high and 68-1/4" wide by 33-3/4 " deep. Expertly refinished; gash in left side counter edge. The appraised value in 2005 was $7,500. Consignor provenance: This desk was purchased in an antique shop in San Francisco and we were told it was a "Captain's Desk" as it breaks down into many small parts so that it could fit into a Captain's cabin on a ship. You can also pull the desktop portion out towards you and it doubles the flat surface of the desk so that maps could be read on it, and the sides of the desk portion open up as well.
