Abraham Walkowitz (1878-1965) 17” x 13” framed, image  13.5:  x 8”  of famous Isadora Duncan, famous dancer, both a fluid and ink and pencil hand drawing showing the end of her dance, with both hands raised in gratitude and Joy! Signed A. Walkowitz, lower right.

Graphite and ink on paper, beautifully rendered.

As early as 1908, Abraham Walkowitz created modernist compositions that were radically advanced for artists working in the Americas. Championed by Alfred Stieglitz, an influential artist and art dealer of independent means, Walkowitz did not suffer the hardships many of the other artists of the decade between the Depression and the Second World War. His contribution to the New Deal came from his brush and voice as an advocate for expanding programs to employ more young artists in the WPA.
